I wish I could talk about the details of Jay’s climb to success and how he became such a powerhouse but that would be 25 pages and an abridged version of his book “Decoded” so instead let's fast forward to 2003. There was no track that got a ton of radio play so for a short time, Jay went unnoticed. I remember when that album dropped, it was an incredible addition to the year but it was hugely under appreciated as was Jay himself. He began appearing on tracks, dropping verses here and there until his solo debut in ’96 when “Reasonable Doubt” was created. As I’m sure many already know, before Jay was JAY.he was kind of a “hype man” (or a filler act) when Big Daddy Kane would perform shows, and from there his exposure to the industry snowballed.
